I knew right from the start of Distance Learning that communication would be key in seeing any success during this time.
Monday morning newsletters to parents and students became routine. I posted all of my assignments for the week at the start of the week due to students needing flexible schedules, but I sent out a Suggested HW Schedule which was appreciated by most!
Daily Google Form check ins became routine in my digital learning classroom. Checking in with each of my students was an important part of my day IN the classroom, and felt even more vital after we started Distance Learning.
Every day students would rate on a scale how they were doing mentally. In the forms, they also had the opportunity to ask specific assignment questions, and we always had a silly question at the bottom. Both my students and I looked forward to even this simple check in every day.
All of my assignments were reflective of the type of work we would do together in person. I continued to create purposeful, meaningful units that built upon the foundations we started together at the beginning of the year. I posted pre-recorded videos for all assignments for students to revisit on their own time.
